What I'm Reading/Watching/Playing January

Reading

Starsight by Brandon Sanderson

As usual, Sanderson delivers! This is a sequel to Skyward which came out last year and it is just as exciting and surprising as the first one. It's a quick, exciting read and I highly recommend this series if you are interested in reading Sanderson but don't want to try and get through one of his longer more intense series like Mistborn or Stormlight Archives, or if you just prefer sci-fi to fantasy. I read a lot of sci-fi in the past year and Starsight definitely ranks highly in comparison.

Fate of the Fallen by Kel Kade

Oh man this was terrible and a struggle to finish. The plot had so much potential, but the writing was just so bad. There was a lot of times when something cool would happen...off page. Or something boring would happen, and then the characters would meet someone new and recount what just happened in a very boring way. Even one of the more interesting dynamics of the main character talking to someone that no one else could hear was poorly executed and just confusing. The world building also had potential but wasn't integrated well and had some big gaps in it. Now I know why it was half off at the book store. I wanted to read the Witcher series but it was sold out everywhere...

Watching

The Witcher

Pretty much everyone I know has watched, loved it, and gotten that "Toss a coin to your Witcher" song stuck in their heads! I enjoyed the acting and the story even if it was a little cheesy sometimes (but come on, I love fantasy cheese!) BUT the costumes were definitely disappointing. I can make a post about it later maybe, but I'm glad  to have heard that they are getting a new costume designer for the next season! I ordered the book on Amazon but it was back ordered and won't arrive until February.

Gravity Falls

John and Tom recommended this show and so Gunnar and I have been watching it a little at a time over the past few months. We finally finished season 2 and really enjoyed it! It's a younger show but really cute and sweet and funny--especially the second season. It was a complete show that had a very satisfying ending at the end, I definitely recommend it!

Playing

Mass Effect: Andromeda

John got me this game for Christmas and I was super psyched to start it since I am a HUGE Mass Effect fan.  But my computer's CPU was NOT psyched to run it, so I had to buy a new CPU and John installed it for me and then I was able to play it! This is going to take me many months to finish because I have no time for gaming right now, but so far I like it. You play as not an N7 but as the adult child of an N7 who is thrust into your father's responsibilities and learning on the job, which is leading a colony of explorers into the Andromeda galaxy. I'm about 6 hours in and I love it so far!
